F18-vinnaren är ---- WILD CAT från Hobie Cat.
Hobie Tiger lanserades redan 1995 och dominerade kappseglingarna inom F18 under nästan ett decenium. Tigern är även den enda F18-kattan som är EGEN ISAF-klass. Länge försökte man nog få Tigern som OS-val, och att försöka återskapa den entyps-succé som Hobie Cat 16 är. Men F18-klassen är lite annorlunda och enormt teknik-driven i sin framkant. Och tillslut, efter Archipelago Raid 2007 - (där Tigern kom 1:a, 3:a och 4:a) satte man sig ner och funderade på hur nästa generation skulle se ut.
Man valde Martin Fischer som designer. Han står bakom Capricorn, en massa extrema A-kattor och har även design-finger med i de stora Americas Cup projekten - tänk att även de har gått mot flerskrov!!
Martin fick tid på sig och man har tagit hjälp av både tank-tester och avancerade datorsimulerings-program. Så tillslut, nu i april/maj 2009, så släppte man ut de första vildkattorna på kappseglingsbanorna - och resultaten har inte låtit vänta på sig (se nedan):
Seglingsegenskaper
Hon lyfter ett skrov extremt tidigt, tidigare än alla andra befintliga F18 idag, men är tekniskt utmanande att segla. Tigern är ju extremt snäll och lätt att få fart i även för nybörjaren, men nya F18 Wild är alltså lite mer krävande - men också snabbare för de som bemästrar sin vildkatt.
Hela balk+trampolin-ytan är flyttade ca 30 cm akterut jämfört med Tigern. Volymen i de droppformade förskeppen gör att det går att pressa henne ordentligt mycket, mycket mer på undanvinden utan att man välter. Står bekvämt gör man också på den mjuka halk-fri-mattan och att kanten akterut är "tillplattad" - se bilder. Sticksvärden är djupa och smala, liksom rodren. Balanserad och exakt styrning
Snyggt dropp-formad med volym nertill, men ändå en snygg runt botten förut som hindrar att hon "klistrar fast" i lätta vindar. Och platt under vid aktern för sköna surfar. Seglen är omsydda sedan lanseringen, och har nu mer djup och kraft i sig.

06/10/2009 - The Hobie Wild Cat wins the F18 Championship in Belgium
The National F18 Championship of Belgium took place 3 & 4 October at Sand Yacht Club de Oostduinkerke. 28 competitors for this regatta and a podium full of Hobie Cat with the victory of the Wild Cat team Proot/Proot, followed by another Wild Cat team Demesmaeker/Koopmann, and the 3rd is the Hobie Tiger of Angletaire. Congratulations to the champions.
29/09/2009 - The Hobie Tiger is the winner of the Duc D'Albe 2009
The Duc D'Albe Regatta was held in Hyères the week-end of 26 and 27 September. It was organised by the Club Multicoque de Hyères, and this 10th edition was raced under optimum conditions. A great performance for the team Di Bernardi/Pellegrino on Hobie Tiger who wins the regatta. The Team Pardigon/Rizzo takes the 3rd place also on Hobie Tiger, followed by Baeckler/Gate on Hobie Wild Cat. 5 Hobie Cat in the Top 10! A great success for Hobie Cat and also for the organisers with 126 boats lining up on the starting line. Congratulations to the competitors and organisers.
25/08/2009 - The Hobie Wild Cat winner of the F18 Italian championships
Team Bissaro/Cesari won on a Hobie WildCat the Italian F18 Championships, in Lake Garda, ahead of 43 F18 sailors. Looking at the scores they totally dominated the regatta with a 3rd as worst results and 5 bullets. Congratulations to the Italian champions.
24/08/2009 - The Hobie Wild Cat wins the NAM REM Race, Zandwoorte (Netherlands) Once again the team Heemskerk/Tendij is first ahead of two other Hobie Wild Cat: Casey/Mooij and Veenmann/Munck. To be noted the 4th place of the team Loos/Schuumann on Hobie Tiger, followed by another Wild Cat of Delnooz/Gering.
24/08/2009 - The Hobie Wild Cat of Mitch Booth/François Filippi takes the 2nd place of the Trophée Malo (France) in the F18 category. They are followed by the Hobie Wild Cat of the team Moana Vaireau/Romain Petit.
24/08/2009 - The Hobie Wild Cat of Proust/Motteau wins the 2nd place of the Archipelago Raid (Sweden)
28/07/2009 - The Hobie Wild Cat wins the Westland Cup, s'Gravenzande, Netherlands The Westland Cup took place in s'Gravenzande (Netherlands) the weekend of 25 & 26 July and once again the Dutch Team Heemskerk/Tentij wins de F18 competition with their black Wild Cat Bulthaup, ahead of 27 other teams. With 4 Hobie Wild Cat in the top ten of the regatta, this new "made by Hobie Cat" F18 catamaran confirms its potential.
06/07/2009 - The Hobie Wild Cat wins the F18 North Sea Championships (Belgium) Mischa Heemskerk and Bastiaan Tentij won the "F18 North Sea Championship" that was held on 4 & 5 July at the RBSC in Duinbergen (Belgium). The famous black Hobie Wild Cat won ahead of 62 other F18
teams among them more than 1/3 was composed of Hobie Wild Cat and Hobie Tiger.
22/06/2009 - Raid des Baleines 2009 - La Rochelle / France
Two Hobie Cat on the podium of the Raid des Baleines 2009 : - 1st the Hobie Wild Cat of Team Proust-Motteau, - 2nd the Hobie Tiger of Team Neau-Picon.
15/06/2009 - Texel TNG Shorttrack Races Mischa Heemskerk and Bastiaan Tentij won the TNG Short Track races in Texel (Holland), on their black Hobie Wild Cat, after an extremely spectacular match race.
01/06/2009 - Féquet - Erussard (Team Malo) win the Raid Bleu Normandie - Life works sometimes in mysterious ways! As he could not count on his usual crew Paul-André Meury, Victorien Erussard did not think that his first participation in the Raid Bleu Normandie would bring him such a success. In deciding to renew the team Malo for this occasion and to crew with Loïc Féquet, the new Hobie Wild Cat team came up with a masterstroke. Photos, videos and results are on the event web site.

Vi var många som smekte skrovet på Paris båtmässa 2008, där detta var allt man visade - och fick oerhörd uppmärksamhet. Vilka konstiga hang-ups vi seglare har... När mässans första dag var slut, fanns otaliga fingeravtryck från alla som klappat och knackat och dragit handen längs med skrovets läckra linjer.
